Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!

Dear Kaleiopuu Ohana,

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you back to another great year of school.  This is always such an exciting time of the year as our students embark on another year in their academic journey.   This year will no doubt provide our students with challenges, but most importantly growth.   Our theme this year is, “Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!”  This year we are making a conscious effort to utilize collective thinking to build a collaborative environment.

One of the exciting curricular changes the school is going through this year is a transition to the Stepping Stones Math program.  Stepping Stones Math is the State approved math curriculum that was created specifically to match up to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  Our teachers will now have the math resources they need to teach what our students are expected to learn in the CCSS.

Another important transition our school is going through, is the use of Response To Intervention (RTI) blocks in our daily schedule.  Our students will be screened three times a year through i-Ready and placed into appropriate learning blocks to help them learn the specific skills they need to improve their ability to understand the curriculum they are learning.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Pacific Knights Motorcycle Club, who held their annual school supplies drive to help the Waipahu elementary schools this summer.  The Pacific Knights made contributions of school supplies and money to our school.  Also, you probably noticed that our parking lot was repainted as well as our stairways in the two story buildings and portables had their non-slip coating reapplied.  This was done in partnership with the Hawaii 3-Rs project, volunteers from First Hawaiian Bank and Jade Painting.  Our very own National Elementary Honor Society students were also on hand assisting the effort.  Special thanks go to Representative Ty Cullen, Council Member Ron Menor and Senator Michelle Kidani, for their contribution of time and refreshments.  We will have a write-up along with pictures regarding this event in our next bulletin.  It’s great to know that we have such great organizations in our community to help our school and families.

On that positive note, I want to say we are off to a great start this school year.  I have no doubt that our school community will do it’s very best to help our students achieve much success academically and socially.  Remember: Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!

Aloha,
